The Winter Gardens of the Kakita
Fan Fiction for the Legend of the Five Rings
I added The Language of the Fan to the RPG Tools area just for some more little tools to help your RPG.
I own a fan that has 4 flowers on it: Plum, Cherry, Bamboo, and Maple, with readings from the Lotus Sutra between the images of flowers. I thought that would make a terrific code fan for a courtier. Different combinations of flowers and sayings could mean different things. Cadence, in general, is a language of shared context. Once you have a few tools to orient yourself in the symbolism, you can make up a whole dialog where nothing is concrete. Once all parties understand that The Peach Pit Boy is the Matsu Daimyo, for examples, you can have an extensive discussion about the Peach Pit Boy without anyone who doesn't have that point of reference understanding. Fan language is a very simplified version of the same thing. I'm working on Local Governance still, but I've taken a (very long) break. I'll get back to it. Just doing some other things.
