The Last Kenshinzen in Kyuden Kakita
by Kaiu Koshin
A story snippet from 1123 (FFG Timeline) in the days where Kyuden Kakita is held by the Lion following the events of Roar of the Lioness.
In a stretch of hallway in Kyuden Kakita...
"Kakita-sama, how unexpected to meet you in the halls. Normally my retainers endeavor to keep us separate for some reason. Would you please move out of my way? I am requested in the war room." Tsuko says as she meets eyes with the last Kakita still in this castle, her thumb already on her tsuba just ready to break the seal.
"I apologize, but given that you've kept the staff from serving me, I must prepare my own meals and you stand in my path to the kitchen, Tsuko-chan." Kaori replies through almost gritted teeth, her palm resting on the pommel of her own blade.
Tsuko's eyes widen in rage at the insult of being regarded as below Kaori. She broke the seal on her katana and was halfway through drawing it when the six Lion that were accompanying Tsuko interfered.
Two of them stepped between Tsuko and Kaori, unarmed and hands away from any arms they had. One pressed against Tsuko's arm keeping her from drawing her blade fully, and the other three were attempting to pull Tsuko away and they were nearly failing.
"We can go another route, Tsuko-sama! Dueling a Kenshinzen is too much of a risk!" One of them calls out, their voice straining from the effort of holding back their Daimyo.
"We apologize for this interruption, Kakita-sama. We will choose another route and leave you to your meal." One of the ones blocking the two said as they bowed deeply.
As the retinue begins traversing an alternate path, Kaori calls out to them. "You could apologize by letting the chefs serve me again!"
Only to receive a slightly distant "NEVER!" in response, almost assuredly from the still fuming Tsuko.
