Random Demeanors Tables
Legend of the Five Rings 5th Edition allows Players to use their choice of ring for social rolls, and uses NPC Demeanors to determine if the approach the player takes is easier or more difficult to use to make a social approach. However, demeanors are scattered throughout the L5R Rule books and it is difficult to create full-fledged NPCs with a properly wide variety of demeanors on the fly and with good randomness. This allows the players to fall back on using the same rings over and over without consequence.
These tables are to allow the GM to select a demeanor randomly and quickly for any NPC so that the PCs can be kept guessing.

To use these tables, select the environment into which the PCs have been introduced, and roll Percentile Dice (2d10 or d100). Select a demeanor from the Main Demeanor List table for the selected environment. If a rare demeanor has been rolled, roll another Percentile Dice, and select a demeanor from the Rare Demeanor List for the selected environment. Then add a name and features as you see fit.
If the chosen demeanor does not work for you, you are free to reroll to find something better suited for your needs.
Note: The Friendly/Neutral/Hostile/Mystical environment tables only have demeanors prior to Path of Waves, and will not be updated. All demeanors, including Path of Waves, will be in the General Table for reference.
